The Business Plan

The first thing that you need to come up with is a business plan. This business plan will outline the goals for your business along with projected income. This is a vital piece of information because your business plan is what the bank uses to determine if they will loan you the money needed for start up costs. It will also keep you on track of what you want to accomplish.

Know Your Start Up Cost

Determine how much money you will need for start up. To do this, you will need to make a list of everything that is needed for your practice including monthly leasing fees, office equipment, staff salaries and etc. (To get some ideas on what you may need - see the links at the end of the article.) It is probably a good idea to add an additional 25% to this amount to account for unexpected expenses.

Finding Start-Up Funds

Now that you have determined the amount of money that you need it's time to go looking for the money. As mentioned above, you could try for a business loan from one of your local banking institutions. But you have other options also.

Depending on the amount of cash needed to start up your business, you may be able to use your personal credit cards to get the cash that you need. Just be sure that your cards have a good interest rate.

Another option may be a small business loan through the small business association. Contact your local SBA office to find out more information. The SBA also has an very informative website that can give you a ton of information on starting a small business. This site even has a multitude of forms and information on how to run your business. It will answer questions about employee benefits, taxes, and marketing. The information on this site seems endless. It is a very valuable website that you should frequent often.

To finance your Nurse Practitioner practice, you may want to check into Angel Investors. This is a group that is made up of Doctors, Lawyers and other businessmen and women in your area. These people are dedicated to providing the money to small businesses for start up. Just make sure that any contract is read thoroughly by your attorney before you sign.

SCORE

There is another organization that you need to become familiar with in addition to the SBA. This is the SCORE. In fact, it is probably a good idea to visit the SCORE website first. It contains everything you need to know to start a business. The SCORE organization will give you access to small business counselors that you can contact to ask as many questions that you want. These counselors are successful businessman from your area. Some may even agree to meet you in person to help you with your business planning.

Obtaining financing for your Nurse Practitioner business start up is not hard if you know where to look. Do your research, plan well and you will have a very profitable business.
